ARMED FORCES Pathway
MISD thanks all students and their family members who seek to serve our nation in times of peace and war. If a student is interested in pursuing a pathway into the armed forces, there are many opportunities available.
Counselors strongly advise students to reach out to different branches to understand what their mission is, benefits, and potential for growth in a career and collegiate pathway for future goals.

RECRUITERS ARE IMPORTANT
Students who are interested in a specific military branch are advised to reach out to a recruiting office and speak with a recruiter. Recruiters guide students by informing them about what the branch offers, training, educational skills/requirements, jobs within the branch, and mentor the student throughout their remainder of high school into basic training.

ASVAB Testing
The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test was designed to measure aptitude in different fields of study--math, science, engineering, reading, and problem solving. This test opens students to a database full of current information on all careers and jobs across the country with access to colleges/universities/schools and career/job specific training/certifications required.
The ASVAB test is NOT about military aptitude and recruitment. The main purpose of the ASVAB is to help students understand their strengths and weaknesses in many fields of study such as math, science, reading/writing, problem solving, and technology in order to figure out potential careers/job opportunities to focus on.
Using data collected from your test results, a student has access to a database of continually updated/current job trends, colleges/schools where training on specific trades and careers takes place, and current information on state-based job demands, salaries, and national needs for jobs/careers.
